To analyze the peformance of your application, NetworkSmart first requires a network trace of your application running across a network. This trace (sniffer) file allows NetworkSmart to break down the application and understand the application's behavior and characteristics.
Supported Sniffers and File Formats
NetworkSmart automatically supports the following network monitoring products:
- Microsoft Network Monitor 2.x and 3.x (.cap)
- Wireshark (.pcap)
- Ethereal (.dmp)
- any sniffer product that can directly save to one of the formats listed above
Non-Supported File Formats
If your current sniffer saves to a file format that is not supported by NetworkSmart, there is a good chance you will be able to convert that format into a supported format using Wireshark or Ethereal. In addition, LeadByte will be releasing product support for additional file formats (such as Sniffer and Network Instruments) as well as localhost (TDI) sniffing in the first half of 2008.
